Our employment law team has extensive experience in dealing with employment agreements, employment regulations, policies and dismissal-related issues in general.

Aside from dealing with individual-related employment law matters, the team also assists companies facing collective labour issues, trade union negotiations, collective actions (or redundancies), relocation and regulatory issues such as taxation or social security.

Our team has particular experience with transnational matters such as EU social security law, expatriation and business migration.

  • Advising a multinational and major employer in Belgium on the relocation of their HR department.
  • Advising a US-based multinational on the relocation of a manufacturing plant and collective redundancy.
  • KOAN assist and advises a company active in the commercialisation of frozen products in each and every aspect of their human resources management, both on collective issues and individual cases. This includes advising on questions of working time, remuneration, sector provisions, drafting of social documents, termination of employment relations, disciplinary sanctions as well as legal representation in courts.
  • The companies of an electrical engineering group use the services of KOAN to assist in matters relating to protected employees, structural reorganisation, preparation and holding of social elections, change of joint committee, violence and harassment on the workplace, employee right to privacy, end of career planning and complex dismissals.
  • KOAN advises and defends several entities of an automobile group responsible for the importation and distribution of vehicles on the Belgian market in their individual and collective labour relations. This includes making contact with the necessary authorities, international posting of workers, relations with employee’s representatives, social dialogue, transfer of undertaking, collective dismissal, harmonisation of working terms and conditions, termination of employment relations and legal representation in courts.
  • Koan assists an office that specialises in providing economic and financial services to companies with issues relating to people management and career planning. In this context, KOAN drafted employment agreements, services agreements, internal policies, reimbursement of expenses plans and variable compensation plans.
  • A high profile bank uses the services of KOAN in complex individual disputes and legal proceedings. Recently, KOAN also advised this bank on the right to privacy regarding sensitive data process and remedies against former employees suspected to be in breach of their confidentiality obligation and of unfair competition to the benefit of a direct competitor of the bank.
  • In the context of a close collaboration, KOAN assists an important media company with all issues relating to their employees, both individually and collectively. This often requires pragmatic and creative solutions : dismissal in particular circumstances, end of career planning, optimisation of remuneration package, drafting of internal policies. KOAN also assists this company in holding former social elections (in particular the definition of the technical business unit), termination of employment relations, legal representation in courts as well as in the context of several intra-group transfers of undertaking.
